Martell: Director, Scientific Competency

“Whether it is mentoring the next generation of scientists at Nelson Laboratories or facilitating the Industrial Microbiology and Sterilization class at BYU, some of the most rewarding work I’ve done is to teach others. The work we do in the labs really impacts global health, and I am proud to have been able to be a part of it for more than 20 years.”

Martell started at Nelson Laboratories in 1994 where he began working on the Radiation Sterilization team and was responsible for bioburden testing and radiation validation studies. His specialties include microbiological process validations and radiation sterilization. Today, Martell serves on many AAMI Sterilization Working Groups and is a highly-regarded industry expert who works on the AAMI Sterilization Standards Committee and is the AAMI liaison to the AATB Standards Committee. In 1995 he received his Registered Microbiologist (RM) certification, and in 2001 his Specialist Microbiologist (SM) certification in consumer products and quality assurance microbiology.

Jeff: Vice President of Laboratory Operations

“I am proud to work for such a great company whose focus is on improving the quality of life. To have been a part of developing Nelson Labs from a small laboratory into the global company we are today is astounding, and it promotes a sense of accomplishment personally and as a team collectively.”

Jeff's career at Nelson Laboratories began 1990 as a Study Director in the Protective Barriers department. In this role, Jeff had the opportunity to be involved in new method development for surgical gowns and drapes to help improve patient and heathcare provider safety. This work resulted in a Nelson Laboratories' test method for viral barrier testing becoming a domestic and international standard, and it continues to be used today. After mastering many roles in different areas of the company, Jeff now serves as the Vice President of Laboratory Operations, where he is able to use his previous experiences to continually improve internal processes and efficiency.
